Mindful and Reflective Moments

Pia Behmuaras ‘23 - “A Flash of Meditation”

Vassar College Season 1 Episode 8

It’s difficult to find long periods of time to relax every day. With this episode, and just 5 minutes out of your day, you will get your heartbeat slowed down, breathing expanded, and overall energy lifted from stress or negative thoughts. Who knows, you might even fall in love with meditation and stretch it longer each day!

Speaker 1:
Welcome to Mindful and Reflective Moments. And thank you for joining us. In each episode, the Vassar College community member will share a mindfulness practice and explore how their practice sustains them during these uncertain times. We hope that you enjoy the podcast and find it helpful and meaningful.

Pia:
Hi everyone. I'm Pia. And I would like to lead you through a brief meditation inspired by Mooji to feel grounded and connected in this moment.

Pia:
So first become comfortable in your body. Sit back as if you were about to read your favorite book or chat with your best friend. When you're ready gently soften your gaze or close your eyes. Take three very deep breaths in, hold it for a few seconds and let it out.

Pia:
You do not have to make any effort or do anything to relax, to notice the natural feeling of being. Bring your attention to here and now. As you bring your attention to here and now notice your thoughts, don't follow along or engage with them, just let them be. Feel the natural easiness of just being. What do you feel in your body right now? Become aware without judging or analyzing. From head to toe watch but don't connect.

Pia:
Just repeat, I am. Detach yourself from the meaning and repeat, I am. Now take this feeling of not doing, not knowing but just being and gently open your eyes when you're ready.

Pia:
As you go about your day, you can feel the sense of lightness, of presence blossoming in you. Remember it will always be there no matter what happens. Thank you for choosing to be mindful and meditate for a minute.
